The Challenge

The Ground Water Monitoring & Piezometer Network – Punjab Irrigation Dept project, executed by Global Air Drones and Sentrum Engineering Services (SES), addressed three critical challenges: meeting large-scale monitoring needs for the Punjab Irrigation Physics Directorate requiring a robust system to monitor groundwater levels across multiple districts (Lahore and Vehari); ensuring data accuracy and transmission through high-end, reliable data collection and transmission from field to central directorate for effective water resource management; and achieving technical integration through deployment of advanced instrumentation and training of personnel to handle sophisticated telemetry systems.

Measurable Impact

Proactive Risk Management

Continuous monitoring of groundwater levels and pore water pressure enabled timely identification of subsurface changes, supporting proactive environmental and resource management.

Sustainable Water Management

Provided a vital resource for human sustenance with data-driven approach, supporting informed decision-making regarding sustainable utilization and conservation of groundwater.

Operational Reliability

Use of certified, manufacturer-backed monitoring systems ensured high-quality data meeting international standards for critical government infrastructure projects.

The Solution & Outcome

SES managed the installation of a comprehensive network consisting of 55 piezometers across the designated districts, providing extensive coverage for groundwater monitoring. The system was integrated with automated data loggers and telemetry-based communication, allowing for remote data acquisition and real-time monitoring of pore water pressure and groundwater levels.

The scope of work included comprehensive support through training of department personnel and specialized data analysis to ensure the long-term utility of the monitoring network. This approach ensured that the Punjab Irrigation Department could effectively utilize the system for sustainable water resource management and informed decision-making.

Key Technologies Used

  • Advanced piezometer network installation (55 units)
